A Kerala Reception

At a Palakkad evening reception
Without an exception
To celebrate any event
For someone of the moment

At a friend`s 90th birthday reception
Outpourings of much affection
From people as they come in
Friends relatives kith and kin

For the ladies a good chance
Bonds with friends to enhance
Colours and clothes that match
Jewelry for the eye to catch

In light conversation engaged
News of children servants exchanged
All in their pursuits flourishing
New experiences now seeking

Ladies a force to reckon
Any challenge they take on
A symbol of domestic power
Not an easy walk over

An institution commanding respect
Major decisions taken in any aspect
The women always having a say
If ignored a heavy price to pay

With such strong support
And a confident deport
Men meticulous in daily task
In success so can bask

Men`s clothes selective
Choices always effective
Belted well-groomed yet modest
With people at their very best

Polite to please eager
Avoiding serious talk and danger
Humour a distinct Kerala trait
A pinch of sarcasm to give it weight

People come and go
With friends walking to and fro
At a three hour reception
Half an hour`s stay not an exception

Food the same everywhere
Strong drinks not always that rare
The meal the end marking
For good byes to be making

People look forward
An event to look toward
All like a get together
Even for half an hour

An occasion for solidarity
Trust through accountability
With this deeper meaning
For all with like leaning

Getting together in this way
Allows a clear path to lay
For others mixing and knowing
Without divisions together bringing

Malabar Gold

Malabar Gold

On Bharat`s west- coast
Kerala is the host
To Malayalees everywhere
Venturing out with dare

Early links with Arabia Asia
Also with Syria Persia
A maritime state
Now a distinct trait

Proud of their rain swept land
Coconut paddy golden sands
The western- ghats sheltering
From excess of weathering

IT skills got early
Applied in clever ways daily
Always in good command
A work-force in high demand

Malayalam lends itself
Other languages to learn themselves
Multiple native skills
Anywhere fitting the bill

The good and bad together
Any storm can weather
The good always outshining
With a silver lining

If asked for her true essence
Respect is its true presence
For close ones and strangers
No one feels in danger

Rich in resources
Human and natural sources
The ladies a shining example
Not that easy to trample

With a stable home always
Men go for a hard workday
But now with many distractions
Some lured to such attractions

Golden Malabar at its best
If all can meet its tests
People have to better unite
To make things really bright

India's National News Paper

India`s National News Paper

From 1878 The Hindu giving the news
18 pages of gains losses and abuse
Earthquakes border wars police action
People helpless seeking protection

The Hindu paper mornings awaited
Impatient if ever late
In Madras began its early days
Readers always willing to pay

100 cities turning smart
Quake zone exodus breaks ones heart
Trade links scams grafts wages
From April third 2015 first page

Photo fest Thrissur Pooram news makers
Gang rape victims skilled workers
Light Metro mass contact hackers
Farmers produce no takers

Jakarta execution WW II memorial
Chikungunia vaccine promise unreal
Rice technology low cost high yield
Chess cricket tennis football taking the field

Fifteen Pooram elephants
Umbrellas shining festoons resplendent
Lead elephant deity bearing
Seven elephants both- sides wearing

Tasseled head dressing
Men paired pompon bearing
Trumpets horns drum beats
For milling crowd a rare treat

All in one day the Hindu covers
Editorials to the paper gives its power
China and India in galloping race
Indo Pakistan relations little to praise

A headline standing out
Ecology being killed without doubt
Expert committee frowns
On policies sure to drown

Striving for impartial news
Always balanced views
For people to decide
Their destiny to provide

The Hindu for the thinking person
Decisions made with good reason
On par with the world`s best
Meeting all the tests

While in India my pleasure
Reading the Hindu at leisure
Editorial and views capture
Me on a daily adventure

Man of the moment

Man of the moment

A frame upright
With a steady gait
Not fast not slow
Someone often in tow

Clothes simple neat
Comfortable shoes on feet
Everything getting a sharp look
Recalled well as from a book

In humble beginnings life began
As a boy worked hard as a man
Helping family in ways many
Studying hard in time found if any

Earning a law degree
Well- earned many would agree
But law was not his line
To teaching more inclined

For the young to be able
To have confidence and be capable
Given another chance to choose
With teaching nothing to loose

As with clothes life simple
Means for needs always ample
In food a vegetarian
In his ways a disciplinarian

Working saving priorities high
By living within ones means gets by
Helping others when possible
Expecting nothing for his trouble

For the wayward a deep frown
For ways leading them to drown
Between work and play strict balance
Duty first done with reliance

Earn your keep enjoy your sleep
No cause this way to weep
A little self- control goes a long way
Not a heavy price to pay

Who might be this person
With such good lessons
A friend known to all
Always standing tall

Man of that moment
Becomes one of this moment
Giving such truths
To us like sweet fruits

Round and round they go
To truths sometimes we bow
Like the eternal lamp
Man of the moment will triumph
