The Tick - Tock Man (Reminiscenes 1)

Flowering plants bushes trees
Bringing harmony and peace
For birds butterflies a treat
A beckoning place to retreat

Early days spent in a place so grand
Happy childhood in such a fairyland
In the middle a comfortable house
Good memories these arose

For six early years with such memory
Of a happy and loving family
Good living nothing wanting
A paradise in the making

Neighbours kind and friendly
Helping each other pleasantly
Hawkers and vendors on their rounds
All with their own calling sounds

Walking to town school everywhere
The bicycle in those days not so rare
The rickshaw hand drawn and hooded
Struggling with it heavily loaded

Not nice to see such human toil
Makes ones blood boil
The hand drawn rickshaw got abolished
Pedalled trishaws began to flourish

Tick Tock the mee - goreng man
Making his rounds following his plan
With eggs oil given
A plate of hot mee - goreng taken

Every morning without fail
We hear the vegetable man hail
Selected items including fish
Housewives chose for their daily dish

For dry provisions to Johore Bahru town
Chinnaiah Pillays shop well renowned
Orders early each month given
To the house by trishaw taken

Always orange crush bottles a dozen
Not a single bottle gets broken
Gunny string to tie used
Refreshing fizzy drink never refused

Trips to town looked forward
At the coffee shop ice creams flavoured
A fathers treat for his son
After a long walk in the sun

Early days at school
In Mr Khoo`s car pool
Ngee Heng Primary at first
Bukit Zaharah Secondary next

My teachers several
Cherayth Chen Gurnam Singh all to marvel
Discipline with love combined
Strict and also kind

In this way went by my first few years
No cause for any fears
Happy in natures embrace
With a loving family`s grace
